Tiptoeing In ... and out again ....

Quietly I come to say thanks for emails and, no, the Local Government Ombudsman
has not yet completed his investigation on my behalf, but is getting there. And, yes, I am a little paranoid about who from County Hall may be visiting here. And because I continue without disabled facilities and adaptations to my home, the laptop on lap is tiring and painful, but the latest gigantic steriod in my butt has made a big difference to stamina and cognitive functioning, so may as well use a bit of it here.

A new pic on my side panel ... does not represent me as I appear now, zooming along on my wheels, but taken many moons ago, (the specs say it all) with my Airedale.

1st May is Blogging Against Disablism Day 2008, so click on the title link in the post below, and join in.
See you there .... bye for now.

Nice to see you. I'm taking my complaint to the Healthcare Commission via my MP, as my advocate was doubting we'd hear from them very soon on the 'small' matter of wheelchair provision. She is appalled I've had to go into debt to buy a secondhand scooter without any OT input. Just so you know you are still not alone. And hello County Hall!

Hello Seahorse
Wow ... I really thought your route to justice would be quicker than mine, and I will be very interested to read how your MP deals with it to the Health Commission. That is something I had not thought of. Not that I want to think of anything more !
It is appalling that you had to get into debt to get a second hand scooter. And we are just the blogging tip of the submerged iceburg proportions of struggling crips.

Sally, tip of the iceburg indeed. One worker from social services asked for my advocate's number because they were so appalled at the conditions a man they'd just visited was living in. That's social services, asking for a contact for an advocate so the advocate can take action against social services! Incredible. And it was originally a social services admin worker who recommended I get my MP involved in my case.

Appalling ! But social services front line staff wanting to contact an advocate on behalf of a service user, really backs up some of my experience - that generally (and I have said this to the Ombudsman's investigator) the front line staff are struggling with pressure from above to cut budgets - which means cutting services. Those social services staff who have a professional oath lurking in their qualifications - do try to support service users - its their service managers and elected councillors who are afraid to defend increasing social services spending against central government cuts. Generally, apart from my current (2nd) OT who is a bit flaky, the front line staff are supportive - their bosses and committees further up the heirarchy are not taking note of the legislation that is designed to protect and provide for us service users - and it is that legislation that the advocates, and the Ombudsman - will use to protect us. Only .... WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO BE DOING ALL THIS OR DOING IT FOR THEM !
(We should write a book ! Oh for the energy and equipment to do so.)
All this striving to get what is essential is blocking my inspiration for BADD. See you there - but I won't make it until the morning!
