What A Pain - but don't PANIC just yet Sally

Well it is almost nine months since my skull surgery to remove the two benign frontal osteomas, and the scar has recovered very nicely from the 39 (?) staples holding the skin together while it healed. Even my silly little fringe (a mixture of silver, light brown and white - without any help from the hairdresser's chemicals) is looking almost respectable, as if I might have, in a mad moment, decided a fringe was a good idea.

So WTF is growing on my skull now ?????? A small lump, that was not there three weeks ago, that is bigger today than it was a week ago, as long as the top joint of my middle finger and as wide. And my head is a bit painful and tense, but that could be tense as in worrying about it.

Lovely GP doctor this morning: what do you think it is Sally ?
Sally: I don't KNOW ! but I am very shaky about it. What do you think it is ?
GP: I don't know. I'll ring Southampton (Wessex Neurology Centre).
Southampton Neurology: Yes I remember Ms Sally, can she come in on Thursday and we will have a look.

Oh Yes Please, the Sooner The Better. Not panicking just yet.

(whispers to self: oh shit !)

Thank you Cusp and Seahorse.
Wessex Neuro rang this afternoon to talk it through, and said they will scan it on Thursday; PA booked to assist, so now doing some serious OM OM OM -ing.

Its good to know I am being virtually hugged and reality thunked of. bless you both.

(Where's Charles Dawson when you need him - damn)

I have just checked: I am able to keep my forefinger and my middlefinger crossed and at the same time my ringfinger and the pinky. and I can do that on both hands. So that means 8 fingers crossed at the same time for you. Hope it helps. I'm thinking of you.

Charles Dawson posted a fierce looking tiger just yesterday. That does not exactly answer the question about where he is, but I thought I'd let you know.

Oh BMone, thank you for your kind finger crossing wishes. I can cross those too, briefly, but do uncross yours before you cut off the blood supply.

Well, CD is keeping his blog page up I see. Thanks for telling me that. I think that if a blog name/page has no posting action on it for a while, Blogger gobbles it up, so that may be why he has re-appeared, he did say he would keep the page up for the valuable past posts he lists.

Well, I have left him a comment which I hope he reads. Its not just for his medical calming advice that I miss his presence - all his blogging talents; knowledgeable, entertaining and above all, his kindnesses.

The Good News is it hasn't grown since Monday, even though it had grown from the previous Friday to Monday. And it isn't hot, so not an infection or inflammation. Or that might all be the Bad News.

The Good News is the NHS wheelchair service have approved my choice of indoor wheelchair, after a two hour indoor and outdoor assessment today. The outdoor assessment was silly - all the dropped curbs we tried to use were blocked by vehicles ! And when we returned to the Wheelchair Service's premises, a delivery driver's had parked across the entrance, blocking access to their door and to my vehicle ramp. Such is life.

Thinking of you today; hope it goes/ has gone well. Great news about the wheelchair!

I love the doctor asking what you think it is. I mean, a doctor might ask you that if you have very vague symptoms and he thinks you're keeping something from him, but a lump on the head? How would you even begin to guess?

Thanks Goldfish. Waking to your comment was good. It has been a long day.

Re my GP. Writing something, correction; when I write something, what is missing is the inflection in the voice. What didn't come across is the hilarity of the exchange with my lovely lady GP, who I have known over 12 years. She and I both felt stumped by the lump. I felt she trusted my judgement that it was serious enough to need her attention and she knew me well enough to say 'I don't know' and so proceeded direct to Neuro.

So next post. Thank you.
